Renew IP

Posted on November 24th, 2007 by admin in PC Tips & Tricks

This trick is used when you need to renew your IP address (not static IP). Ive heard also that some people used this trick long time ago on rapidshare when downloading links.

OK… to renew the IP address simply open the cmd prompt and enter:

ipconfig /renew

or in case that your DNS is blacklisted on some sites against spamming, or the DNS is not resolving well you can try to use

ipconfig /flushdns

I had a case where my static IP was blocked from the side of Spamhouse sites (sites which fight against spam) and they blocked my IP address and no Email could be sent through MS Outlook or Thunderbird. As there was about 20 computers in LAN, 1 computer had been infected with some Virus which sent spam Emails to other computers. This was “caught” by this Spamhouse Project and the IP was “banned”.

This command worked like a charm! On some cases it didnt work and the safest and fastest way to unblock was to report your IP on their site and it will be unblocked mostly in 24 hours. It seems they changed some rules and flushdns is not helping much but its worth a try if you get “banned” before asking them to remove it.

Note: If you have a static IP there is no way you can change it except to use proxy sites, or to ask your ISP to change it.
